Say “I do” at some of Manchester University most historic and iconic venues, including Christie’s Bistro, Whitworth Hall, Whitworth Council Chamber, and Manchester Museum. 

Each of our venues has a distinctively different ambiance, and are located around the Old Quadrangle, on the main campus of the University of Manchester. These beautiful & stunning  buildings a date from 1873 and were designed by Alfred Waterhouse and his son Paul Waterhouse who also designed Manchester Town Hall.

Today the Museum occupies one side of the Quadrangle adjacent to Whitworth Hall, which is the main hall used to this day for Graduation ceremonies and key ceremonial events.

Christie’s Bistro is a wonderfully atmospheric space – an intimate, yet striking venue, described as a ‘hidden gem’. Built in 1890 as the new Study of Education, the Christie Library was a gift from the former law professor, historian and bibliophile Richard Copley Christie. For much of the twentieth century it housed the Manchester University principle science library. 

The impressive room is versatile and flexible, being able to accommodate the smallest of weddings, through to a large party with all your family and friends.  Retains much of its historical past, the room has an authentic feel, not only of the University, but also the city of Manchester. It’s a truly unrivalled space within the city centre. 

Christie’s Bistro is licensed for Civil Ceremony’s up to 100 people, can host wedding breakfasts up to 160 people and evening receptions of 250 

Whitworth Hall was designed by Paul Waterhouse and named after Mancunian industrialist, Sir Joseph Whitworth, who bequeathed much of his fortune to fund public developments in Manchester. The Hall is Grade II listed and today forms the backdrop of the University’s Graduation Ceremonies and key Ceremonial events throughout the University year.

This is a truly a breathtaking venue. and sits at the heart of the Old Quadrangle, and is an iconic building within the city centre.

Whitworth Hall is licensed for Civil Ceremony’s up to 650 people, can host wedding breakfasts of 360 people and evening receptions of 360 

Whitworth Council Chamber was originally conceived as a grand venue for meetings within John Owen’s College, and then the University’s Council. Today it plays host to meetings of the University’s Senate and Board of Governors meetings

Whitworth Council Chamber is licensed for Civil Ceremony’s up to 100 people, can host wedding breakfasts of 50.

Manchester Museum A unique Grade II listed building built in 1885, offers something completely different. The 4.5 million items within their collection including dinosaurs, mummies and even live animals help to create a range of distinctive rooms and galleries. 

The Manchester Museum offers two distinctive venues for wedding. The Fossils Gallery, complete with its own T.rex skeleton Stan is licensed for Civil Ceremonies of 100 people and can host wedding breakfast of 100. Living worlds is a distinctive and unique setting, complete polar bear, tiger and its very own baby sperm whale.  Living Worlds is is licensed for Civil Ceremonies of 100 people and can host wedding breakfast of 120
